Everyday, our bodies are under attack from pollutants, industrial toxins, pesticides, fluorides and chlorine in our water and radiation from all our gadgets and other sources… (think Fukushima) All of these together serve up a huge dose of toxins that we need to eliminate so that our bodies can go about the process of maintaining our gut health and a super powerful immune system. Try this amazing detox drink recipe to help support your healthy gut and give your immune system a boost.
I actually learned of this from Dr Josh Axe (www.draxe.com)who is an amazing advocate of healthy gut living. It’s now my “go-to” daily beverage and it has made a real difference. I noticed that I have less bloating after meals….(regardless of what you do, you can’t eat junk), more energy throughout the day and better weight control.
Here is the recipe:
- 1 10 oz water (filtered or purified is best..I use re-structured alkaline water
- 1 Tbsp Bragg Apple Cider Vinegar
- 1 Tbsp Lemon Juice (fresh squeezed is best but if store bought be sure it is just pure lemon juice with no additives and not from concentrate)
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon1 dash cayenne pepper
- 1 Tbsp Raw, Local Honey (Raw Local honey contains bee pollen and because it’s local will help your immune system deal with pollens that are local to you)
- 1/4 tsp ground ginger (Again, buy whole ginger knuckles…and then grate your own fresh…so much better for you)
Mix up all ingredients and stir.
1-3 Servings per day, 10 minutes before meals…
Apple cider vinegar helps grow good bacteria known as probiotics. These support colon health and increase adsorption. It may also play a role in supporting healthy blood pressure levels and boosting metabolism. Make sure you only purchase raw, unfiltered; Braggs is the very best you can buy.
Lemons are high in Vitamin C which is known to be a powerful anti-oxidant and support healthy glutathione levels and helps with absorption of many key nutrients including minerals. Lemons also contain Quercetin which is a powerful phytonutrient and can help calm histamine reactions.
Cinnamon is fantastic for balancing blood glucose levels.
Cayenne is a powerful detoxing agent in the blood and circulatory system. It opens up veins and artieries as well as supports the lymphatic system and because it increases thermogenisis, (your bodies built in fat burner system)
Raw and local honey as mentioned is the only honey you should be using. Most store bought honey is shipped in from miles away and has been so heavily filtered that most of the health benefits have been stripped out. Also, bonus note: If you are planning to travel somewhere new…have someone who lives there send you a small jar of local honey to use a week or so before you travel. This small step may help you deal with the pollens that are in the air that your body has not built up defenses for.
Ginger of course as we all know is a powerful anti-inflammatory so it’s great for not only your gut health, but also joint health and is super at detoxifying.
